Bit late with this Duke they were removed months ago by councill it's called fly posting .

Well, the next time someone loses their cat, they'll know that telegraph poles are sacred and mustn't be touched.

I think publicising an excellent event is great and after the event is over, ask the organisors to take them down. Such a shame the community is full of NIMBYs rather than encouraging enterprise.

Why would you want them removed? Contact the organisers after the event but give them a chance to publisise a great event.

I've spoken with the manager about this, and also someone I know who works at Co-op head office.  The ticket machines have been broken for ages, and the current chaotic situation has been going on for many months.  Apparently the responsibility for organising all Co-op car parks is managed centrally by the Co-op, who use a company called Excel Parking (I think) for all their car parks.  Branch managers have no involvement and no power to deal with problems.  The manager of the Marple store has reported the matter many times but nothing has been done.  Meanwhile, he knows they are losing business.  No wonder the Co-op's in a mess..........   ::)
That is why we need an alternative supermarket and I won't mention that name  that was stopped from coming to marple .by councillors and Mia ,

Re  the car park - it can be a nightmare, with cars queuing out onto Hollins Lane to get in there!  Something really ought to be done to sort it out; it hardly attracts genuine shoppers into Marple!  But it doesn't seem to be the Co-op's responsibility, so does anyone out there know what the situation really is? >:(

sorry I know this one has been done to death, but I was in the coop car park today and all the parking meters were off. It was really obvious that the car park was full of long stay people, and those who were just popping into Marple for a few bits and bobs would have struggled to find a space, I did, this was about 9:50 and it was packed but not much tooing and froing to cars. I don't know if this is a permanent change, but I don't think its brilliant for people who want to shop in Marple, at least with a small payment and a time limit there is a turnover of cars and it encourages people into the town for shopping.

Speaking of which, Toymaster is a right treasure trove isn't it! Solved my birthday present woes for a 7 and a 10 year old in 10 mins flat!

The idea that any car park should be free is just nonesense. Land as a rental value and the land owner bit it the LA or a private landowner has a right to a fair return on their asset. There is no evidence whatsoever than free parking generates extra business in fact there is evidence to the reverse that it drives people away.

How many of those driving round and round the co-op live less than a mile away?

You are right Wheels but the Local Authority has to accept the purpose of providing car parks. They take a lot of money from businesses in the form of rates, it's highly likely that hte majority of those businesses' customers will use a car to shop. As a service to the retailers, they need to provide afforable parking or reduce the business rates. If those car parks are not fully used, it's apparant that the charges are too high.

I'd like to see your evidence, I'd not be surprised if the cost of enforcement and machinery for charging for parking exceeds the revenue and the lost trade.
