Hi Amazon, I'm really not sure why you think Marple is 'heading for a ghost town'? 3 shops does not make a ghost town!
Consider all the shops that have opened in the last year or so & are doing well:
The Zipyard, Claudio's, La Petite Maison, The Linen Room, the electricians on Stockport Road. There is a mobile phone shop just opened on Derby Way & I've heard that 'The Attic' has finally been sold & will be a shop. There is work being carried out in 'Mulligans' & it's looking very smart.
Have you been in Marple on weekdays? Tried to get a table in All Things Nice? Queued at either of the butchers? Or even been in my shop? Marple is far from quiet!
In fact we are busier than we've ever been!
It would be really nice to hear good things about Marple shops rather than negative for a change!

I agree about the quality of the two butchers and the fish stall.  They are a good example of what you can achieve by staying the course, building up a loyal customer base, and providing good quality, even if you are not particularly cheap.
As for this....
All new businesses are at risk, that is why I have tremendous respect for those who are prepared to try. Far better than the lilly livered public servants who will go on strike at a drop of hat
...it's a handy reminder, in case we've forgotten after a few quiet weeks, of Duke's wacky obsessions.   What on earth have shops going out of business got to do with people who go on strike?  You could just as easily write 'far better than the greedy payday loan sharks and buy-to-let investors who are exploiting the poorest people in the country'.  But that makes no sense either, of course!   :D

It's quite a depressing read when Marple residents are attacking the small businesses that are keeping the price of their houses up. Don't bite the hand that feeds you or you really will end up with a ghost town. I always use our shops on my day off and if you bothered to try them out rather than hide behind your keyboard, you would find that there are some fantastic offerings locally. We need to build a community rather than be so negative to destroy it.

Hmm.  I hope Stationery Supplies is right, but we know from recent experience that new shops opening have a habit of closing after a few months.  Hopefully this new wave will be different - but don't bank on it.

Maybe what we need is a proper supermarket to bring some much needed footfall to the town.   ;)

As mentioned, the dog grooming place was doing well but something beyond control meant she had to close. Autoden is still doing Ok in Glossop. There is an issue about the rents demanded, in addition, the business rates system is no longer fit for purpose.

snobby dogs last 5 minutes in marple but its woodley branch is still open.

Snobby Dogs is a franchise so work separately from each other. I have heard that the lady from the Marple shop is very seriously ill and that is why she has had to close the shop.

would this be littlewoods butchers which is shut from 1pm on a saturday and doesn`t open till Tuesday! what a way to run a business!

That is entirely up to them, they seem to do pretty well and Butchers always used to close early on a Saturday in the same way fishmongers do. Usually on account of them being up at 3 a.m. to purchase fresh stock. Fresh meat & fish is something alien to cling filmed, dipped in blood rubbish from supermarkets,

Well spotted amazon.
It shut a week ago.
Along with the dog groomers opposite nat west and the dress agency on market st.

The bookies were a small private chain.

Marples heading for a ghost town no wonder it's quite weekdays .
