Constant 'humming' noise in Strines since Saturday 12th April

Has this ever been identified and/or solved?

still got noise, went to our local noise firm when we first started with this noise, but wanted to charge a lot of money to look into it for us, couldn't guarantee the outcome, we went to the council, but they didn't help, until a lot of people complain, nothing will be done

What about contacting The Noise Abatement Society. They may be able to advise in this issue.

Has anyone had any progress with the council regarding the low humming noise,  there is a lady in Grimsby called Margaret Belton,  01472 827842 (after 7pm ) who has had problems since 2002, well worth a phone call.

People have suggested other people rather than the councill . What are you doing about it ..

the humming is worse than it was, sounds like our central heating boiler, but its not on, but no one is interested, the council make out is us, they are not prepared to bring their equipment again, even though it was 2 years ago, the noise is very loud in the morning from about 4.45am, then worse about 9am, is reasonably bearable in the afternoon, then about 3.00p.m starts again all evening, about 10.00p.m. starts loud, going on all night.  Came in this morning Wed, about 4.45am and it was very loud, can hear it outside.  We are at our wits ends, no one seems to want to help. Have read a letter on wed page, that says the councils are using shoddy equipment, saying they can't hear any noise so they don't have to spend money, taking factories to court, the law says everyone is entitled to peace in their own homes from 11pm to 7am, but we haven't had that for 3 years. still waiting for our local newly elected councillor to come and have a listen.

My husband mentioned that he had seen this thread on here, thank goodness I'm not the only one hearing this noise. We live on Church Lane and the whirring noise has actually woken me up this morning, it seems louder than usual. I hear it most nights and early mornings and it does wake me up on occasion. The most annoying thing is that in the stillness of the night when your hearing tunes into it it's really hard to shake it off. I do have tinnitus but the whirring noise far outweighs this on my scale of annoyingness! I'm not sure but it does seem to be coming from the Goyt mill area. Has anyone had a response from Stockport Council?

Yes, Stockport Council have been trying to help but it's difficult to track down a low frequency noise source (it could be as far as couple of miles away) so it'll need more people complaining so they can work out where it is coming from 

I'd suggest that anyone who is unfortunate enough (like me) to be sensitive to this noise and is experiencing the same, please complete the form below and they'll get back to you.  They asked me to do a log, which I've now returned.  We'll see what happens!

Hello, you may be looking in the wrong place for your noise source, I am an industrial electrical engineer with many years of experience, low frequency humming noises often come from electrical substations, I am assuming there is one of these in Strines, they are often an older brick built structure with transformers outside but sometimes inside not visible. Worth a look, these sub stations can make noise depending on the current electrical load, temperature etc.

have you any equipment for testing noise, we have an old substation near us, we had it tested for the hum, but their engineers said it was ok, but fitted soundproof  doors, noise still gets through holes in walls,
been quiet during day Fri, but very noisy from early evening sounds as though the boiler is running, but everything is switched off, would love someone to help us,contacted our councillor, but still waiting for reply
