4 of us went for a meal on Valentines Day to the Sportsman Pub. We always rate our visits there! Especially in the summer when we sit in the beer garden and soak in the sun. The walk down the canal from the ridge also adds to the pleasantness!! I am considering taking my mum their for a meal as sue and joe are making it another special occasion at their pub. £16.00 per adult for a 4 course meal and £7.00 for a child! I recommend..

Rachel, I took your recommendation and went along to the Sportsman last night (or rather - the family took me for my birthday, even though I paid and drove!'<img'>.

I completely agree with you - the food was excellent and despite us being in a smoking area because the no smoking section was full, there were only two people in the entire room who lit up and so it didn't spoilt the meal at all.

I can heartily recommend the mussels in white wine sauuce, the shank of lamb cooked in rosemary and reccurrants and the cassis royal cheesecake. Equally, the lasagne and chocolate fudge cake went down a treat with the kids.

All for under £40 - lovely.

My family and I have been to dinner at the Sportsman on Strines rd today, it really was nice, the food was lovely, service was great and the atmosphere was very very nice. My children were with my husband and I and they were made to feel very welcome.  We would definately go there again.
