The official launch of the Marie Curie Fundraising Group for Marple and SK6 Areas will take place on 21st March at 7.00 p.m. at the Navigation Pub, Stockport Road, Marple.

We are a group of local volunteers who hope to aid the Marie Curie charity in its fundraising efforts in the local area and thereby help with its work in giving care to terminally ill people and support for their families.

If you have some spare time, enjoy friendly company and would like to help people in need, then come along and join us.

Yes,

It is sad that disproportionate salaries of senior managers only serve to bring charities into disrepute, in the eyes of the giving public. It isn't just the CEO'S either, supporting them is usually a disproportionately paid board of directors.

Hollins though has a point well made, and I think that the real judgement to be made is against the work that these charities actually do. Much of it no doubt being carried out by unpaid volunteers.

That the chief executive is overpaid is sad (although we have no idea what she chooses to do with the money). She is hardly representative of the general staff, many of whom are well-trained nurses and clinicians. The vast majority of the supporters give their time for free and I, for one, am glad that this charity is there and believe in the work that it does.

The rules are simple - 'Have fun while raising lots of money for Marie Curie'.

We currently have around 20 Fundraising Groups across Greater Manchester and would love to add Marple, Bredbury & Romiley to the list, it's a great way to make new friends, have fun, get together with like minded people and share ideas whilst making a real difference to patients and their families.

Our new group will meet monthly and look after fundraising in your local area, supporting our Great Daffodil Appeal in March alongside various other exciting activities. We simply couldn't provide the care and support we do without you.
