Town Centre Benches almost completed for 2019

Friends of Memorial Park were back in Marple Town Centre and completed treating most of the benches today, just a couple to catch-up with later.

Town Centre Benches retreated

Friends of Memorial Park have been out treating around half the Marple Town Centre benches today, after refurbishing them all over the last 3 years.

We hope to do the rest on Thursday.

Just as a matter of idle curiosity - what does it cost to sponsor the refurbishing of a seat on Market Street? And who does one approach?

You would approach Friends of Marple Memorial Park (I'm their key contact so a good place to start). We have been charging £200 for each refurb including plaque (less than that in earlier years). However, all benches of this type have been done, so there are no further opportunities at present. We are looking at some other bench refurbishment opportunities that will be announced when we are ready with the detail. We do have a bit of a waiting list, so if you would like to go on it please let me know.

Refurbishment of 17 Town Centre Benches completed by Friends of the Park!

Yesterday Friends of the Park completed the refurbishment of the last Town Centre bench on the Hollins dedicated to Mandy Carter. This means that all 17 benches on the Hollins, Derby Way and Market Street have been done over the last 3 years. We plan to re-treat all of the ones done in previous years before the end of October. Here's a before and after and a few shots along the way of this last bench.

Carrington family sponsored bench completed and final one underway:

The bench dedicated to Douglas Carrington has now been fully reassembled and we have started on the final one, which is sponsored in memory of Mandy Carter.

Here are the before and after for the Carrington bench and the first stages of the final one.

More progress on Carrington family bench from Friends of the Park

Another step forward with the Carrington family sponsored bench today with the first half of the slats refurbished and refitted and the second half taken away for the same treatment.

We are now off the mark with the penultimate bench on the Hollins

This one is sponsored by the family of the late Douglas Carrington and so far we've done the first strip of slats (and they are ready to go back on) rubbed-down and painted the metal work and cleaned up the vegetation underneath.

The bench dedicated to Malcolm Marshall Shaw has been completed today.

We've completed work on the first half of the bench slats and returned them today, it's looking so much better already!

Also we're pleased to have confirmed another family to sponsor the refurbishment of the last bench on the Hollins.

Town Centre Bench Refurbishments 2019

Friends of Marple Memorial Park are now up and running with bench refurbishments in the Town Centre for 2019.

In 2016 we did 12 of the 13 on Market Street and Derby Way.
In 2017 we did the last one on Market Street and the first one on The Hollins, leaving 3 to do.
In 2017 and 2018 we re-treated all the benches again but did not find sponsors for the 3 on The Hollins.

This year we have sponsors for two of the final three and the first of these was started today. This bench is sponsored by Malcolm Shaw and Son in memory of Marshall Shaw.
