Posted on behalf of HUGSCalling all cyclist to join in ‘The Big Uganda Cycle Ride’Marple Bridge Charity, Helping Uganda Schools (HUGS) is planning a big virtual cycle ride from the UK to Kampala. Would you like to join us in journey of wonder and excitement? No passport, no packing and no planes. Just energy, a big heart and a commitment to find sponsors.
You will become part of our team of cyclists, each cycles around their own home area, clocking up miles which when combined with others pedalling during the month of September will cover the 6,480 miles.
HUGS are busy raising funds to complete a school for children with sensory disabilities. The school is well underway but desperately needs more funding to complete. It will be in Jinja, Uganda. Many of the children who have hearing and sight loss receive no schooling but experience has shown that if they get the right early years help then they too can succeed at school and create a livelihood.
HUGS began 25 years ago initially to help just 15 children since that time has built 6 schools (the one in Jinja will be the 7th school the charity has funded). HUGS also funds a scholarship programme to enable young people to complete university education. Chairman of the charity, Dr. Richard Bircher said, “It’s a brilliant charity, all the money raised goes directly to educate the children and young people. I have been to Uganda to visit the schools and seen the difference good happy schools make to these children. Joining the Big Cycle Ride is a great opportunity for those of us who have so much, to share and make life a easier for those who have so little”.
