New Train Timetable for Rose Hill Station from Dec 14th

....whilst the government is telling everyone to stay at home and not travel unless it's absolutely necessary, and if we do have to travel, to avoid trains!  So for the next few months, until we have rid ourselves of Covid, the trains will continue to run with very few passengers, and the re-introduced service level will be far more than we actually need.

And now to report a reduced train timetable from January 18th in line with the national reduction of around 20% due to lower passenger demand, to reduce the amount of subsidies being paid but still maintaining a service for key workers. Now it's primarily an hourly service.

That's a whole different discussion.  There's an argument that no, we don't because of lack of demand.  There's an argument that yes, to make social distancing easier.  There's an argument that says that given we know there is a link between pollution and Covid-19, getting people out of their cars and onto trains will help.  And an argument that says if you let them cut it now, it will never come back...

Some good points made. So in 'normal' times there were 26 trains and passenger traffic increased by - 35% over 5 years. Also to note that this line also serves Woodley and both Hyde stations. Currently in Greater Manchester rail passengers are only at 20% of normal levels and the Rail industry is making concerted efforts to get people back on to trains. However there is also a realisation that more people will be working from home in future but there is an expectation that there will be more leisure activities which could benefit both Marple and Rose Hill.

In response, William Wragg worked with Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, to persuade the Transport Minister to intervene and require Northern to run a temporary service, partly using buses, which has duly operated for the past couple of months.   It wasn't much but it was better than nothing!

So it's good to see that a normal timetable has now been reintroduced, although that is no more than what Northern Rail had promised anyway, back in July.

Following all the recent issues around trains from Rose Hill Station, the latest timetable is getting back to something like normal at 18 trains each weekday with no reliance on using bus alternatives.

The Pacers have now gone, so refurbished 150's are now the norm with the station, car park and surrounding areas also having been recently refurbished.

As always social distancing and wearing of masks is mandatory.
