Home from the Edinburgh Fringe (7.30pm at The Carver Theatre)Out of 3535 shows that performed at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it was an unlikely coincidence that two of our finest Greater Manchester amateur theatre companies happened to be performing in the same week at the same venue. Both shows had such fantastic audience feedback that it seemed obvious they must ‘bring the shows home’ to give our local audience a chance to enjoy them. We are therefore delighted to announce we will be ‘Home from the Fringe’ for a double bill at Guide Bridge Theatre and The Carver Theatre, Marple, on Saturday 27th July 2024.
Two Plays In One Show:OverlookedJack is homeless and sleeping on the street – after all “no-one wants a loafer on their sofa.” Audrey is one of “we wheeled people,” resiliently dealing with a world designed for the ambulant. Overlooked, literally and figuratively, they are thrown together, they connect through a love of crime fiction, but is this enough? Can they overlook their own preconceptions and vast differences between them, to forge a true friendship?
Violets and VinegarThree women. One space. A neglected housewife, a determined party girl and a clueless teacher shamelessly expose their sexual exploits. Join us as they tell the sweet and sour story of their love lives. This character comedy is sure to make you laugh out loud. Think Alan Bennett meets Fleabag (minus the hot priest).
Adapted for a modern audience this play was originally written by David Lodge for the Carver Theatre in the 1990s.
