Come celebrate Marple's rich heritage and immerse yourself in a range of free activities! From canoeing, to heritage walks, historic boat display, lock demonstrations, family crafts and much more!
There will be activities across 3 sites:Marple Social & Forces Club: Where we will show local historical displays and artefacts of the locks over the years. Family activities, such as crafts and build a canal, plus we will be showing our specially commissioned CGI film detailing the legacy of Samuel Oldknow, arguably the man who made Marple, the town we know and love today. Our heritage walks will also start from here.
The Toll house / Marple Wharf Warehouse: Where our canoeing sessions will take place. Meet the experts involved in The Wharf Marple CIC to hear and see the incredible restoration of the warehouse and learn more about the Grade 2 listed building and it's imminent plans. Pop into our Toll House and see the imagery of the area from over the years. Come see our volunteers demonstrate how the locks work along the flight.
Tramway Wharf: Find out about the history of the Wharf, admire the numerous historic boats on display and find out more from the experts available, about the history of each boat and their use over the years.
There really is something here for everybody!
