The "Find a Cure for Martha" campaign to raise money for Kidney Research is £111.50 better off after the first of two quizzes at the Ring o' Bells. Same cause next week.
Incidentally, this is a good opportunity to mention that the Ring o' Bells has recently received a Great British Pub Award as the Best Community Pub in the North West. The Great British Pub Awards are run by the Morning Advertiser, the trade paper, and are said to be the Oscars of the pub world. Sue & Peter heard that they'd been short listed recently and then had a visit from the editor who told them verbally that they had won the NW title but to wait until it was confirmed in writing, which duly arrived last week. They will now travel to London, to the Park Lane Hilton, for the finals where they compete for the titles: National Community Pub of the year, NW Pub of the year and possibly National Pub of the year!
I'm sure that their fund-raising efforts detailed in this thread have played a big part in their winning the North West Community Pub of the Year title and we wish them luck in the finals.
