Breakfast & Best Bitter and other works by Jack Turnbull |
BREAKFAST & BEST BITTER is another in the long line of self-funded and self-published books by local author and historian, Jack Turnbull.
It take a light-hearted look at local history through the eyes of two almost fictitious local characters as the go about their daily routine. As a pair of lively retired sixty-year-olds, this consists mainly of meeting for a slap-up breakfast each morning whilst deciding which local hostelry they will grace with their undeniable(?) Northern wit and charm today.
Along the way, as you listen in on the continual banter and bickering of our two heroes on just about any subject under the sun, you are also treated to an insight into the history of each locality they visit.
Jack claims in the introduction that references to 'Local History' are as factual as he can make them, whilst the conversations in between are pure fiction. This may be the case but they have a very familiar ring to them nevertheless. It's probably best if you buy the book and decide for yourself!
As with all Jack's publications, Best Bitter (Price £3.50) is available from Marple Library, The Marple Bookshop, or direct from the man himself on 427 7020.
