Rationalisation
of the parking bays to provide parking for disabled persons and safe pedestrian areas at the entrances and exits.

Market
Street/Derby Way Refurbishment
The major refurbishment of the main pedestrianised shopping street in Marple is now complete.
-
The drainage system renewed and upgraded.
-
The uneven and unsightly paving replaced with high quality block paving materials in a rational and distinctive pattern.
-
The unsightly brick planters removed and new trees planted centrally along both Market Street and Derby Way.
-
The uncoordinated and street furniture removed and new seating and litter bins provided.
-
Installation of new bollards to prevent
unauthorised vehicles gaining access to the pedestrian areas.
-
Improvements to pedestrian crossing facilities and links to adjacent areas.
Memorial Park Entrance Improvements
The improvements to the park entrance were primarily aimed at improving access especially for pedestrians and to enhance the safety, visibility and appearance of the area.
The entrance was realigned to give better and safer access for vehicles from Stockport Road, combined with improved pedestrian facilities. Traffic speeds are controlled with raised tables with rumble strips at the entrance.
The materials used include a mix of high quality block paving and street furniture that is to become characteristic of the District Centre.
A number of trees were removed to improve visibility and replaced with new specimen trees planted within the paved area.
New street lighting was included to the entrance complimenting the new street lights along Stockport Road.
A more recent addition has been the location of a new entrance sign and notice board within the park.
Further improvements are to take place to improve walking and cycling facilities through the Park, with the aim to
strengthen the link between the main shopping centre with the Marple railway station.
